As the largest and most widely known community based organization in Inwood, ICS has delivered comprehensive youth-focused recreation and enrichment programming since its inception in 1979. Through a combination of governmental funding, private grants, and collaboration with neighborhood schools and agencies, ICS presently provides the following youth services:
THE ADVANTAGE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT IS 52 -
This comprehensive youth program for IS 52 students provides a full array of educational, recreational, and creative arts activities.
THE OUT OF SCHOOL TIME PROGRAM -
This high school focused program offers neighborhood youth an opportunity for wholesome recreation as well as community service.
THE 21ST CENTURY PROGRAM -
This innovative combination of youth clubs that develop personal, social, and leadership skills is offered to IS 52 students during the academic year.
I SPY DAY CAMP -
(Inwood Summer Program for Youth) founded by Good Shepherd Church in 1969 and adopted by ICS in 1981, ISPY is an Inwood tradition that has literally served thousands of children over the decades. Recognized for the diversity of its cultural and recreational outings as well as the competency of its professional staff, ISPY remains a totally free community service.
THE P.A.L. PLAYSTREET -
(Police Athletic League), on Academy Street between Broadway and Vermilyea (directly in front of ICS’s offices as well as IS 52), this bustling daily summer experience is annually recognized as the best Playstreet in Manhattan, a place where youth can safely engage in constructive recreational activities.
THE ISHAM PARK RESTORATION PROGRAM (IPRP) -
This innovative neighborhood improvement initiative was founded by pioneers Mr. & Mrs. J.A. Reynolds in 1970 with the goal of uniting Inwood through cultural and park beautification activities in the Park Terrace Area and has served as a learning ground and source of joy to many ICS youths over the years. Young people are offered apprenticeships in horticulture, landscaping, and park services.
