An outgrowth of the original Washington Heights-Inwood Partnership, ICS’s UNIDOS Inwood Coalition is a third generation coalition of community providers, grass roots associations, and institutional stakeholders that has successfully put a special emphasis on the needs and problems of Inwood’s youth. Funded via the US Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, this prevention project has prepared an in depth Inwood Archival Indicator as well as well as a Service Directory.
UNIDOS aims to identify and mobilize resources to impact the factors that lead to youth problem behaviors (namely Substance Abuse, STD-HIV Infection/ Teen Pregnancy, School Drop-Out, Violence, and Delinquency). UNIDOS has been successful in engaging key community stakeholders in developing and implementing an Inwood-wide prevention plan through such workgroups as the Inwood Community Literacy Network and the Inwood Interfaith Coalition.
